Moulin Rouge! The Musical will be showing on Thursday 18th June 2026 at Kennedy Center Opera House. Kennedy Center Opera House, Washington’s home for stage adaptations, has long been the top choice for play and musical adaptations due to its great sound acoustics, seating arrangements, and beauty. this play is another Broadway musical to further the number of top Broadway plays that have premiered in Kennedy Center Opera House.

A secret affair in the middle of a bustling city, Moulin Rouge! The Musical tells us a devoted but difficult love story in the equally intimate location of Paris, France. In the underbelly of Montmartre, Christian, a motivated American writer who arrives in Paris, France with an aim to succeed in writing, meets the most beautiful woman he has seen and club entertainer, Satine, in the renowned nightclub Moulin Rouge. Christian and Satine then choose to keep their developing love a secret, as another affluent patron sets his sights on Satine as his muse.

Paying tribute to Baz Luhrmann's original that was staged more than 10 years after the 2001 motion picture, this musical's first hurdle was to present an unfamiliar setting to a new generation. The genius stroke of the team, just like the 2001 motion picture, was to tell the secret romantic affair with unexpectedly new renditions of this generation's pop numbers. The obvious solution was to add tremendously to the song list and truly make the musical into a “jukebox musical with a difference”, as the producers refer to it. The result, as seen on the live stage, was a melting pot of impressive medleys, mash-ups, and renditions. Though the Broadway play stays true to many of the 2001 picture's beloved tracks including Lady Marmalade, Moulin Rouge now includes pop songs from the recent decade including Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, Beyonce’s Single Ladies, and Britney Spears’ Toxic performed in unique arrangements.

Being the right kind of different, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is sure to wow its audience. Enjoy a set that you could swear is directly from the late 19th century, matched with an energetic musical score with so many recognizable songs, any viewer is left yearning for an encore by feeling like they are back at the real Moulin Rouge club from the 19th century.
