Back To The Future – Theatrical Production at Kennedy Center Opera House

Set in two iconic decades of the 20th century, specifically the 1980s and 1950s, The musical, Back To The Future, features the same narrative from the late 80s film and was also adapted for the stage by the movie's originators, Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale. The high-spirited and colorfully loud musical tells the tale of Marty McFly, an easygoing high school kid.

The musical is set in motion as Marty lives a typical routine in a teenager's life, enjoying his hobbies (especially in his band) and spending time with the McFly family, all while being utterly curious of entirely new experiences. His uncontrollable interest becomes Marty's very own burden, as upon meeting Doc Brown one day, the doctor proclaims that has succeeded in making his time machine (which is actually the DeLorean) work. An unexpected event that occurs on that day pressures Marty to accidentally turn on the device, surprising him and moving him away to the year 1955. Originally in awe of the different changes he starts seeing, he soon realizes that to correct his accident and secure his future, he needs to also correct the past, and the family and friends who don't know him, back on target.

With similar creatives from the movie it was adapted from, each set design of the musical is represented as a callback to the set designs from the original film, including Doc's lab, the McFly's house, Hill Valley High School, and many locales in the Hill Valley area. Both the set and outfit design also stay true to the decades they represent. Back To The Future’s transfer to the live stage expanded the viewership of one of the favorite franchises that has been produced, while implementing changes and modernization made possible on a theater stage.

Though the show brings its viewers on a nostalgic trip back to 1955 and 1985 respectively, the chosen location for this show is way beyond its time.
