Experience Chicago this spring in the charming Washington, on Tuesday 31st March 2026, at the extraordinary Kennedy Center Opera House.

Synopsis

This universal tale of fame, fortune, and musicals, is all about the moral lines we all cross to feed our ultimate humanly desire. Chicago is a powerful and entertaining story conveyed through song and choreography.

The musical is the second-longest running performance ever to appear on Broadway, outranked only by "The Phantom of the Opera". Chicago portrays the story of two competing and vaudevillian performers named Velma and Roxie locked in jail for murder.

While Velma is already a popular vaudevillian performer, Roxie is a up-and-coming performer trying to create her fame. Although they both committed murder they had different incentives. Velma's intent was heartbreak and betrayal after finding her husband and sister in a compromising position. On the other hand, Roxie's motive was desperation, cunning, and opportunism. Thus unlike Velma's action, which was driven by passion, Roxie's scheme was premeditated, and was intentionally used to garner publicity.

In between, Chicago also exposes the underground game played by the justice system and civilians. Roxie's and Velma's lawyer, Billy Flynn, who specializes in defending female prisoners accused of murder, is seen making a spectacle of the trial, by manipulating his client's trial into dramatic performances composed of excitement and pity.

Meanwhile, Matron "Mama" Morton is portrayed helping the two criminals maintain a connection with the outside world, primarily with Billy, and exploiting the other convicts for her benefit.
