A secret affair in the middle of a bustling city, Moulin Rouge! The Musical tells us a devoted but difficult love story in the equally intimate locale of Paris, France. In the underbelly of Montmartre, Christian, a motivated American writer who moves in Paris, France with an aim to succeed in writing, stumbles upon the would-be love of his life and club entertainer, Satine, in the famous club Moulin Rouge. Christian and Satine then start to have romantic encounters, but in secret, as another jealous man sets his sights on Satine as his muse.

Created as an offshoot that was staged more than a decade after the 2001 film, this musical's first hurdle was to keep a relatively old plot relevant to a new audience. The genius stroke of the crew, just like the previous movie, was to tell the 2019 stage adaptation with never heard of renditions of anachronistic pop culture arrangements. The next move was to add tremendously to the score and truly make the musical into a “a creative peek into the 1900s”, as the creators name it. The result, as watched on the actual stage, was a great combination of unbelievable medleys, mash-ups, and arrangements. Though the Broadway play stays true to some of the original picture's chart-topping numbers including Lady Marmalade, the Broadway show now performs current songs from the recent decade including Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, Beyonce’s Single Ladies, and Britney Spears’ Toxic that is more familiar to younger audiences.
