The true story of Leo Frank is familiar to most: A young Jewish American man arrested for a murder he did not commit.
As a result of a flawed trial fuelled by division, intolerance, mob mentality, and misinformation, Leo Frank is detained, and eventually lynched. This regrettable true event resulted in a posthumous pardon that was granted in 1986, and the case reopened as recently as 2019.
Even though Leo Frank’s tale is eerily timeless, horrific, and gut-punching, ‘Parade’ is a true work of art, delving into complex human emotions while being filled with hope, and is guaranteed to leave you pondering on it long after the curtain falls.
Not only does it shed light on the ills of society, but also reminds of the power of art to confront, elucidate, and reflect. No audience member has ever left ‘Parade’ unchanged and unmoved, goes to bed without thinking about the relevance of this tale, and unimpressed with what they have just witnessed.
At the hands and from the minds of composer Jason Robert Brown, writer Alfred Uhry, and director Michael Arden, a wonderfully memorable theatrical experience was created. one of the biggest must-sees in modern theatre.
If you had any doubts, let the massive amount of accolades clear that up. To date ‘Parade’ has racked up no less than four Tony Awards, seven Drama Desk Awards, two Outer Critics Circle Awards, among plenty of nominations.
From the precision in portraying some heavy thematic material to the magnificent score featuring some of the most popular show tunes today; from the visually appealing imagery to the charisma and jaw-dropping performances by the acclaimed cast; from the captivating story; to the the breathtaking display of artistic genius - ‘Parade’ is marching on, and long after the theatre lights have dimmed and the doors closed, you’ll think about just how outstanding it was.
