The Sound of Music tickets

It is boasting some of the most adored songs in the world, and has been enchanting audiences since 1959. Completely defying its age, it is still the stunning love story, still the timeless tale about resilience, still the unparallelled theatrical experience it was back then, and will continue to be all of that and more for countless years to come.

Everybody that has ever hummed along with ’So Long, Farewell’, found meaning and encouragement in ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’, and tapped their feet along to ‘The Lonely Goatherd’, and even those who are bigger cynics than Captain Von Trapp before he meets Maria, will be delighted to hear the news: ‘The Sound Of Music’ is finally back on the road, and will be teaching District Of Columbia to sing once more! That’s right, Washington, you can count your lucky stars, because ‘The Sound Of Music’ is coming to the Kennedy Center Opera House on Tuesday 9th September 2025!

So make sure to get your tickets now, and come enjoy the world’s biggest must-see in person!

The Sound Of Music

Kennedy Center Opera House

Ever since Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, alongside playwrights Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, created what would be their last musical, ‘The Sound Of Music’ became one of the world’s most renowned stage productions.

A musical with a more sizable amount of well-known numbers is yet to be written; a musical that can remain as relevant and beloved for nearly seven decades as ‘The Sound Of Music’ does not exist; and a tale as heart-warming, yet bravely addressing major social issues, is yet to be created.

No other musical has been revived as many times, had more performances around the globe, and has been received with more acclaim than ‘The Sound Of Music’. Since its premiere in 1959, it has received five Tony Awards, a Theatre World Award, and an Outer Critics Circle Special Award, alongside many nominations. ‘The Sound Of Music’ has also been adapted into a massively successful film released in 1965, and still enjoyed around the globe.

‘The Sound Of Music’, inspired by Maria von Trapp’s ‘The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, follows the tale of Maria, a free-spirited nun, who takes on the massive task as governess for Captain Georg von Trapp’s seven children, and brings much love, happiness, and of course, music, back to the family. The family is faced with many adversities - from the threat the annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany to the inevitable romance between Captain von Trapp - an engaged-to-be-married man, and Maria, a nun.

The truth is that there is plenty to love about ‘The Sound Of Music’: from the remarkable expertise of the all-star, age-defying cast, to the ageless, wonderful music that becomes an earworm without any effort; from the lush sounding orchestra to the gorgeous sets that float effortlessly from a grey cathedral to the old Austrian impressiveness of the Von Trapp house; from the nostalgic tale about overcoming difficulty and an innocent love that blooms like the Edelweiss itself|wonderful tale of love, resilience, and music|celebrated tale that has been teaching the world to sing and believe in love and music for decades} to the powerhouse cast that carries their parts with perfection, delivers the music with command, and steals hearts from the get-go.

The song had it right: the hills are indeed alive with the sound of music, and this fall, you’ll sing once more.

‘The Sound Of Music’ coming to town is a special treat, and true to its reputation, audiences in District Of Columbia can look forward to the Kennedy Center Opera House coming alive with the sound of music.
