It is chock-full of some of the most well-known songs in the world, and has been warming hearts since 1959. Completely defying its age, it is still the passionate love story, still the resonating tale about rising above, still the wonderful theatrical experience it was when the previous generations were introduced to it, and will continue to be all of that and more for a long time to come.

Everybody that has ever remembered their first love to ‘Sixteen Going On Seventeen’, were totally enchanted by the incredible voices of the nuns, and fell in love with the iconic song, ‘The Sound of Music’, and even those who are bigger naysayers than Captain Von Trapp before he meets Maria, will be delighted to hear the news: ‘The Sound Of Music’ is finally back on the road, and will be bringing the music to District Of Columbia in 2025! Following its 1959 premiere, it became clear that Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II’s very last masterpiece, created alongside playwrights Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, was meant for nothing but greatness.

A musical with a more substantial amount of well-known numbers is yet to be written; no musical has ever been able to remain relevant despite its age as ‘The Sound Of Music’; and a tale as wonderful, yet filled with major social issues, is yet to be created.

No other musical has been revived as many times, had more performances around the globe, and has been received with more acclaim than ‘The Sound Of Music’. Since its premiere in 1959, it has received five Tony Awards, a Theatre World Award, and an Outer Critics Circle Special Award, alongside plenty of nominations. ‘The Sound Of Music’ has also been adapted into an award-winning film that has been enjoyed all around the globe for generations.

‘The Sound Of Music’, inspired by Maria von Trapp’s ‘The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, follows the tale of Maria, a free-spirited nun, who after stepping in as the governess of the seven children of Captain Georg von Trapp, brings back music and happiness to the family. The family is faced with many troubles - from the threat the annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany to the romance brewing between Captain von Trapp - an engaged-to-be-married man, and Maria, a nun.

The truth is that there is plenty to love about ‘The Sound Of Music’: from the incredible expertise of the oldest nun right down to the youngest Von Trapp child, to the timeless, wonderful music that you’ll remember for years to come; from the glorious orchestral delivery to the sets that change effortlessly from a grey cathedral to the old Austrian grandeur of the Von Trapp house; from the nostalgic tale about overcoming hardship and memorable tale that has been teaching the world to sing and believe in love and music for decades to the powerhouse cast that carries their parts with excellence, masterfully delivers the much-adored music, and steals hearts from the get-go.

’The Sound Of Music’ is indeed as the popular song describes: it will fill your heart with the sound of music.
