Four decades ago, history was made, when three gentlemen collaborated and created the original musical screenplay for the stage adaptation, Les Misérables. This was previously presented in the French language, and was converted to English medium. Stemming from Victor Hugo’s 1862 book, of the same title, Les Misérables was transformed into a musical extravaganza, performed as a fully lyricized play. Following an initial showing in France, there was already overwhelming support to make an English version. The English production of the musical initially debuted with a two-month trial period, but due to its astounding success and positive reviews, the musical was quickly relocated to the West End. It performed for almost 20 years, and continues to run, until today. Counting all its runs since its creation four decades ago, Les Misérables is actually the longest-running stage play, in this generation. It is undeniable that this global hit continues to be stunning in the viewpoint of the play's attendees. The plot and the fully sung-through score, which revolves around justice, sacrifice, and selfless love, always brings each viewer to tears, due to the apparent passion behind each song and act staged. The musical has become so critically-acclaimed that the show has been adapted to several versions in the movie industry, and has gained a loyal fan base.
